The Sliver of Light

I have written before about letting the ‘light’ in and referred to the Leonard Cohen song. I definitely feel lighter since my sessions.

One of the things that has been on my mind since I went for Fascia release and TRE, Yolande said to me that our bodies have the ability to heal themselves, that we just need to give them permission to do so.

I thought about that a lot. Why would our body NOT want to self-heal? I then remember someone in a talk I once attended saying that the person who is ill must ask themselves ‘What do I get from this illness’? Or ‘What is that illness serving in me’?

These are different points and different speeches from different situations but they have the same root basis. We just need to tell our bodies it is OK to heal and it will do it’s best to assist us.

This bit is TMI, so if you are squeamish, scoot on down the page (fellas)……….

I mentioned about having a cyst of some sort on my inner thigh peripheral to my lady bits? If I did not, well there was one and I was not aware of it until it ruptured. I had felt a hard ‘lump’ there for years but I did not bother it and it did not bother me so we existed compatibly. Then one day it was itchy, then the next day it just burst painlessly but messily.

It had been just chilling since then, but it started itching again the other day. I had a friend who had to have surgery in a similar spot and she said it was excruciating and I am a wuss. Also, any type of surgery terrifies me. So I spoke to it and told it that I did NOT want to have to go to a doctor, I did not want to have any treatment or any pain. I wanted it to just ‘poof’ disappear. By ‘this ‘disappear’ I meant I expected my body to absorb it, or flush it, or do whatever bodies do with toxins and icky stuff.

I woke up the next day and when I showered the hard lump was gone. I could not feel it at all!

After I got dressed I made a coffee and I was sitting at the back garden thinking about how magic humans are. I had brought some apple bits to put in the feeder so I called ‘Robins come get the apples’ and sure enough two of them flew down and landed on the tree then one popped down to the bench in front of me and just stared at me as if to say ‘of course you are magic, don’t you know that?’.

I said to my friend that I felt like my hard outer shell had cracked open and there was a bright light shining into me, healing those dark dingy spots that have lived in the shadows.

I feel taller, lighter, stronger, more confident and I am no longer a slave to food. I eat what I want (within reason) but only when I want. I no longer eat because it is 11am and I should have eaten by then. If my body only wants a cup of tea or a coffee, I give it tea or coffee. If it wants a sliced apple and a spoonful of peanut butter I am going to have that with a pretty utensil.

It will be a small apple and low sodium / no added sugar peanut butter. It is changes of lifestyle and not temporarily addressing a lifetime issue with food. The mental issues seem to have just disappeared along with the excess lymph liquid. Don’t ask me to explain magic by science.

Last Sunday I played about in the Fairy Garden as Norm was still not feeling well. I had added the fairy camper but I was not happy with where it was and wanted to make a little campground vibe. I reorganised the bits a dozen times. This was the final placement, there were a few different combinations getting here.

I also painted the old fairy house that I moved next to the fancy concrete fairy houses. It looked a bit of a mess so while it was raining last Sunday I decided to paint it.

Here it is after I painted it.

Here it is in place with the other houses. Doesn’t it look better?

I forgot to tell you about the beautiful purple amethyst stones that Yolande gave me for my birthday! How stunning are they? I am still deciding what to do with them so for now they are on my outside table where I sit most of the time so that I can look at them.

On Wednesday evening Norm and I had a steak from Casareccio for dinner. We have a half portion Portuguese steak as they are large steaks and we shared an Italian salad.

The weather has been ‘Very Cape Town’ in that it has been howling winds as we often have. At least part of the week was sunny.

The trees were whipping back and forth like Willow Smith’s hair.

The rain was so hard that it woke me in the middle of the night a few nights. But despite the wind, the sun bravely stood up and out on Thursday when I went into town for a pedicure and it has hovered about all weekend.

I went to Sibo again. Sibo works at Pamper Me Pink in Hout Bay centre.

Norm went away early Thursday morning to Potchefstroom in South Africa for work. He returned late last night. I was In Charge from Thursday morning until bedtime on Friday. I am happy to report everything went fine. Poppy even had her first time alone without Finn or a human with her. Finn went out with the dog walker while I was having my pedicure so Poppy had to stay at home. She was very excited when I got home and it is probably good for her independence.

On Thursday night they were best buddies and slept on Norm’s sofa together until I went up to bed.

On Friday Kim came and he finished up painting the ceiling and the light in the outside playroom. He helped me carry down the storage cubes we bought for the toys (by helped I mean I pointed and Kim carried). We put down the carpet, the throw and a couple of pillows. I am still waiting on the delivery of the other curtains. I still need to put the toys into the storage cubes and put away the toys that are too old for them because they are all in a big chest. Norm still needs to put up the hooks and wall shelves. I have one shelf for books and one for chalk as well as 2 cute hooks with pink and white bags to hang from them.

Today we finally went for my special birthday lunch which has been delayed twice due to our illnesses. Norm had asked our son in law Wesley to advise on a lunch spot and Wes recommended Beyond Restaurant. It is based at Buitenverwachting Wine Estate. It was a complete surprise and I had thought it was at Foxcroft but I was surprised when he kept going. I did not guess the venue until we parked the car! It is a gorgeous setting.

We had a lovely table right by the windows with a gorgeous view over the vineyards and mountains.

We were explained about the different options and we decided the 3 course choice was the best bet since it was so early in the day.

I wore a new dress from Me&B.

We chose the artisan bread to nibble until our food came as we were both starving. There was a portion of warm rustic ciabatta which was so fresh and soft yet the outside was nice and crisp. The baba ghanoush labneh was a nice topping but the soft creamy butter was so gorgeous you did not even need anything else. I had forgotten the description of the ‘Olive oil cracker’ and nibbled it to find that it was packed with flavour. I immediately could identify the intense ‘gruberg’ cheese but it took a few to identify the biltong. I do not even like biltong. It was pungent but not unpleasantly so, it was really tasty.

The breads were served at the same time as the chef’s ‘surprise’ course which was mussels in a light curry sauce. I am besotted with mussels and was delighted, but Norm is not keen on seafood and had to be encouraged to try it. He liked it once he tasted it without thinking about what it was.

Norm and I both chose the Grilled Kalahari fillet of beef for our mains. They asked if you were happy to have the meat cooked to the chef’s discretion and we both said yes. This steak was like butter in your mouth, you barely had to chew it. The outside had a perfect level of char and it had a lot of flavour, something that is not easy to achieve with a low fat cut like a fillet. Our server brought a little jug and poured the bone marrow sauce over it in a theatrical fashion. It was served on a bed of vegetable ragout which was lovely and I do not usually eat vegetables. There were various little puddles of puree which were all divine. The ugly one is made of cabbage and ‘kapokbus’ which I looked up to find it translates to ‘snow bush’ but it is also known as ‘wild rosemary‘. The one spice I detest and can smell a mile away is rosemary! But this ugly little puddle of goo was gorgeous!!!

For his dessert Norm chose the Cheesecake Mousse, pumpkin and ginger sponge with pecan and orange ice cream. He loved this dish and hummed in happiness over every bite.

A beautifully arranged dessert featuring a scoop of ice cream, slices of candied fruit, a dollop of sauce, and decorative elements on a rustic plate.

I chose the Buttermilk Tart, cinnamon infused apples, hazelnuts and brown butter ice cream. This dish had such an intense flavour profile! The jelly was intensely apple, the little frozen apple balls were intensely apple, the slice of dried apple tasted sweet like candy. It was just too divine.

We both ordered a cappuccino and they served it with our petit fours. There was one with a lemon cream and raspberry jelly filling and one which tasted like a sour mandarin jelly. It made my mouth pucker as if I had eaten a sour sweety but Norm just casually munched his while I gurned and contorted my face dramatically.

Afterwards we had a slow drive home wondering at how lucky we are to live in such a wonderful place in the world.

Tomorrow Caitlin and Bree are coming over after Bree finishes her swimming lesson. Bree will nap and Caitlin and I can chat about her visit to the USA and she can help me sort the toys out.

Next week is a short week as we have a bank holiday on Thursday. Lily and the babies are driving down on Tuesday as it is Bree’s 2nd birthday party on Sunday. Trevor will be coming for the weekend but not sure when he arrives or leaves in typical Trevor style.

I am so excited to see all of my kids and grandkids.

Until next time, Kisses from the Kitten xoxoxox
