The Soil of South Africa Clings to You

Last weekend was really cold and overcast. As we have no heat in our house other than a wood fireplace that we could not be bothered to light, it was really cold in the house too. I was wearing 4 layers of tops, wooly socks and fur lined boots and was still wrapped up in a thick furry blanket with a lap cat to watch telly last Saturday night.

While I was waiting for Norm to get home from collecting our dinner, I sat outside with Poppy and Blue cuddled up listening to the trills of the birds and watching the solar lights pop on one at a time.

It was so calming and peaceful and I just felt so in touch with Mother Earth and so grateful for the serenity of my life. At night all of our senses shift and carry each other’s weight. Because we can’t see, our hearing is much stronger, our sense of smell is enhanced, our sight is different.

On Sunday we had a long lie, then Norm brought me big frothy coffees in bed while I relaxed. He fed the dogs and did the dishes then went to the shops. While I showered he made bacon butties for us which I munched outside. I am so spoiled. He loves to spoil me and I love to be spoiled so it works well. Many women do not feel that they deserve being spoiled and are uncomfortable with it. I had such a horrid first marriage that I feel I deserve all the good things.

When he got home from the shops I put a beef pot roast and carrots in the slow cooker.

Then I relaxed at the back with Blue, listening and watching the birds and wondering where lizards go and where they get their food in the winter.

The next night we had the beef roast, carrots and potatoes and it was delicious. It was just perfect for the cold weather.

On Monday we had a bit of sun midday and I spotted several lizards popping out for the sunshine.

While looking at the plants I noticed that only part of a bush was covered in blooms and remembered the conversation I had with Kim the new gardener. I was asking him about a bougainvillea at the front and asked why only part of it blooms. I also said I was not sure where the base of the plant was. He laughed and said the whole bush is a bougainvillea. I asked why only part of it bloomed and Kim said ‘only part of it sees the sun’. You can see in this pic below, taken at about 10am, the sun is coming over the mountains from the east and moves across only touching the top of the bush along the path of the blossoms.

The same applied to the pink blooms on a bush at the back of the house shown in the 2nd pic below, behind the hooligan hounds.

I was standing with my mouth open at the simplicity of this when Kim said it. Does everyone know these basic things? I then thought about how that concept represents many people. Some people only bloom under certain circumstances, their growth is not generated from within, but from external influences or conditional circumstances. I like to think I can generate my own energy or blooms 🙂

Tuesday night Norm went to the shops to get ready-made mash and they were out so he picked up potato au gratin. It was rather gorgeous with the left over stew. If you are one of those who judge me for ready made mash, if I peel potatoes my hands hurt for days if you must know, not that I need to justify how I get food into my body.

On Wednesday we actually had sight of the sun! It was still windy and it was far from warm but at least I could sit out and warm my old bones a bit.

The lizards were out again and I risked getting closer to them.

Thursday was sunny and cool but it was lovely to be able to sit in the sun and watch the dogs play.

I loved watching the birds. I have not sat on this side of the house in ages because of the weather. It is too hot in the summer and too exposed if windy.

On Friday the weather turned again and was icy cold with instances of rain throughout the day. The birds did not seem to mind but my animals all did, they stayed bundled up inside.

On Friday we had the meeting to deliver the Discovery Report I have written, basically telling the senior clients what I have found out over the last 6 months, so my nerves were on edge. The senior stakeholders did not attend so I have been asked to do a summary of the 150 pages as key findings and recommendations but my managers complimented me on how thorough a document it is. Now I have some more work to do but as I love writing it is not a chore, I am happy to do it. I am still paid until the end of this month so I suspect they will be finding me something else to do to keep me occupied until then. I hope they decide to extend my contract from the end of June as I am enjoying the work.

I want to share some interesting things I did this week. First was a random quiz I discovered somehow. I took it and apparently I am a Mad Scientist but to me it just sounds like ‘you have ADD’ because it says I am a person of extremes, highs and lows. It says I can be hard to live with and that is very true. It says I need someone to keep me balanced and that is our Norm. It was pretty accurate, give it a go and tell me what it says about you.

Then my friend Tamlyn did an astrocartography reading for me. It is sometimes known as Relocation Astrology. Astrocartography is a discipline of Astrology where your birth chart is mapped against the world map. You input the place, date and time of your birth to generate the information for the map.

This is how to read the map. Each vertical line represents where a planet is angular—rising (ASC), culminating (MC), setting (DSC), or on the nadir (IC). These spots carry strong energies connected to that planet’s influence.
Colors and symbols help too:
● Red = Personal/Assertive energy (Sun, Mars, etc.)
● Blue = Emotional/Psychic (Moon, Neptune, etc.)
● Green = Mental/Communicative (Mercury, Venus)
● Labels like MC, IC, ASC, DSC tell us where the planet affects life most.

I was shocked to see South Africa come up for me multiple times! It came up as a “Highlight by Planetary Influence” as well as a “Region of Interest”. Both of these lines go via Europe which is where I moved to between my residencies in SA. I cannot remember what was said to me but if I am reading it wrong, let me know as I am just making assumptions as always.

South Africa is my Power Zone #BiGFishSmallPond

I found that very interesting! You can contact Tamlyn via the page link above to have yours done. Especially if you have itchy feet, find out where your heart and head would be most at home. It is interesting that sometimes you have to travel to find your home. South Africa always felt like home to me, maybe it is the indigenous commonality with the ancestors of the lands. Someone once said to me that ‘the soil of South Africa clings to you’ and it resonated with me so strongly.

The weather has been freezing cold since yesterday. It rained loads this morning and the sky is very cloudy.

Both granddaughters as well as my daughter Caitlin were sick this week. Amelia is still a bit congested and has a cough but she is improving. Tomorrow for lunch I will have the pleasure of a visit from Miss Bree Ray. We are baby sitting so that Caitlin and Wesley can have a lunch date at VELDT , the new restaurant in Hout Bay. Norm is so sad that we have not been able to go but we have Poppy to deal with. She is hardly civilised. Of course if I do not ever take her out she will never become civilised so there is that.

Locals, wrap up and stay warm. I hope you all have a lovely week ahead. Until next time, Kisses from the Kitten xoxoxox
