Beaches and Babies

This has been such an amazing week and it feels like a month since I posted! On last Friday afternoon Caitlin collected me and we set off on the 450 km / 276 mile journey down to the Garden Route which usually takes about 5 hours on average to drive, factoring in at least one stop.

We arrived late that evening and Caitlin dropped me off by Lily and Josh as Josh’s mom is away and very kindly offered me her room for the week. Caitlin was staying with her dad so she headed over to his house and I got settled in.

The next morning we were all up early to get ready for the baby shower. The theme was ‘Woodlands’ and Caitlin had hand made all of the decorations herself. She was in such a state trying to remember everything, collect the cake and balloons and decorate before we arrived. The venue was The Pottery which is also the company Lily works for. How adorable are these little creatures Caitlin made?

Caitlin had ordered a cake and she made the decorations for that too. There were so many presents for little Pickle! That little baby is so loved and blessed.

The acorns and pinecones were collected by my friend Michelle and I soaked and scrubbed them. The little shoes were their father’s baby shoes.

Jos, the lovely owner of The Pottery venue treated us all to loads of gorgeous pizzas with all sorts of different toppings. The Caprese pizza was a big hit!

Caitlin also ordered some delicious big salads for the tables of guests to share. They were so beautifully presented and really tasty.

I am so happy that my girls love each other this much and are so supportive of each other.

It was such a beautiful day and loads of Lily’s friends also came out in support of her. I am so proud of both of my girls, they are such lovely kind humans.

We had a laugh as we always do. Lily made a cheeky comment in the photo below which set us all off. It is not very flattering of me seeing as my chin appears to have left the shot, but I love it anyway. This photo was taken by the brilliant photographer Gabrielle – her IG is here.

That afternoon when we got home to Lily’s, Trevor came over to visit with Lily, Josh and I. Caitlin had to go straight home to her Dad’s after the baby shower because she had a car full of food. We ordered some Nando’s Chicken, chilled out, chatted and laughed.

On Sunday the kids went out with their Dad on a safari. They got home at dinner time and we ordered Mexican take away from Mexi Go-Go George. The option was ‘Hot’ or ‘Not Hot’ which we came to decipher meant they either added chopped Birdseye chilis or they did not. OMG. We ordered Hot enchiladas for Trevor, Josh and I. They were so hot we nearly lost our breath and our mouths were numb. Phew. They also contained loads of green peppers and none of us except Trevor liked green peppers. We know for next time! The quesadillas were fine, the nachos were good (just next time do not select Hot), the chili poppers were divine so we have a few options when I go back in a month’s time.

Josh’s mom has a gorgeous British Bulldog named Ragnar which is absolutely adorable but as do all bulldogs, he reeks. He loves people though and snuggled up to Caitlin when we all moved to the lounge.

As you may guess from her expression, that did not fly and she avoided his attentions. Next Trevor was used as Ragnar’s object of affection.

Ragnar and I adored each other, regardless of his smell. He spent as much time as he could sleeping on my leg or against my shoulder.

During the day both Caitlin and I had to work as usual so we did not have a late one on Sunday and on Monday evening we just stayed at our respective houses, Caitlin stayed at her Dad’s and Lily cooked some gorgeous fillet steaks with a pepper sauce for her, Josh and I. It was yummy. We had load shedding from 9pm so we all went to our beds and snuggled up in the blankets with our devices to watch a series. It was icy cold weather and the lounge TV was not working thanks to blowing up due to a power surge (from, you guessed it, LOAD-SHEDDING) so there was no point sitting up in the cold and dark.

Tuesday the 6th of June was Trevor’s 37th birthday so we all planned to meet up for dinner that night. Trevor went to surf after work as usual and so Lily and I drove to the beach and walked down to watch him. As we walked down towards the sea, the memory of the place came back to me, I had not been there in years!

We did not get any decent pics of Trevor surfing as the light faded and the waves were rather disappointing. He did get up once and stayed up all the way into the shore but we were talking and missed filming him but we did see him. Here is a gorgeous shot of him surfing taken by a friend of his. She is a great photographer.

I can see why surfers are so chilled. They spend hours waiting. And waiting. They have to be patient! They also expend so much physical energy that it would remove any tension. Caitlin likened treading water to meditation and I can see why. Trev certainly looks great since he started surfing but of course I have always thought he was incredibly handsome, but I may be a bit prejudiced!

After Trev finished we all drove through to the tiny coastal village of Wilderness and had dinner at The Girls. Caitlin, her dad and step mother joined us there too.

I loved having all of my babies together. It is so rare that we are all in the same city at the same time.

Lily ordered the chicken cheese burger for R135. It was massive in size and looked gorgeous. Caitlin and I were both jealous.

Trevor also ordered a burger, the American Beef Burger for R180 which came with cheese, caramelised onions, tomato relish & sliced gherkins. Caitlin and I both ordered curries: she had the mango and chicken and I had the mango and prawn curry. The prawn dish was described as: ‘A fragrant Cape Malay style curry with mango pieces, coconut milk and warm spices (no chilli). Served with sambals, poppadum and fragrant basmati rice or couscous.’ Mine was R185 & Cait’s was R155.

Everyone seemed happy with their dinner and we ordered a few desserts.

Lily ordered the Frozen Honey cheesecake to share with her dad and Caitlin. They said it was very tasty but also very cold which in the weather we were having was probably not the best choice, but she did not notice the word ‘frozen’ she just saw cheesecake. It was described as “Almond biscuit base and topped with a rooibos & mixed berry coulis.”

Trevor and I both had the Salted Caramel Brownie ‘saucy dark chocolate brownie topped with salted caramel sauce with vanilla ice cream’. Their ice cream reminded me of the homemade ice-cream we made when I was a kid so I loved it. The brownie was nice and I really enjoyed it.

It was a lovely evening and it was so nice that the whole family were together for Trevor’s birthday.

The next day Caitlin and I were off on our way back home once we finished work. It meant we got home quite late but I do not have any annual leave time to take off. As much as I loved being with my kids it was so nice to get home to my darling husband and pets. Norm built a roaring fire and I wrapped up in a soft, furry blanket and the animals climbed onto me on an off throughout the evening.

Finn gets very jealous and has to insert himself into every situation. When he saw Pixie snuggling up he had to try and squeeze between us. He is so hilarious.

On Thursday morning it was still pouring rain when I got up.

When I went outside I decided to pray on the porch and when I looked down, there was a beautiful feather waiting for me as a gift from my birds to welcome me back.

I loved my interpreted meaning behind it and added it to my collection on my Ancestor’s altar. My Altar is mostly Native American based but I have a few other pieces to represent my other ancestral lines which I remember from my past life hypnosis session, so I also have some Fu Dogs and I also have Porcupine quills to represent the African soil where I stand now.

It was just so bitterly cold on Thursday and unfortunately for the dogs it was also groomer day. I mean, it is not as if they have to get naked, just wet.

I was so happy that the rain cleared on Friday morning and I could pray barefoot on mother earth! It was beautiful and sunny and warm.

Then in the afternoon the heavens opened again and it poured rain for a bit.

This morning it is beautiful again. This afternoon we have our first meeting of our new Women’s Social Club. It is a few women meeting up to drink, snack and talk shite. My kinda vibe. I had described this sort of group to Norm as something I wanted in my life and the next day I got a message from my friend that she was starting one! Spoken into existence!

Speaking of which – I mentioned recently in my post that I had won a Divine Feminine Fire Carnelian mala kit from Crystal Spirits?

Apparently one of us was confused as after I was sent the link to download a PDF of a prayer (aka Mala), I enquired about the prize and asked whether I had also won the beads as it mentions ‘mala kit‘. I received a response which appeared to tell me that I won not just the mantra download but I thought she confirmed the mala beads were being dispatched as well.

I emailed them to enquire and they just ghosted me until yesterday when they finally responded to say I misunderstood? Or that they misunderstood, and I therefore misunderstood because they were confused, or we both misunderstood or some nonsense. I’ve spent thousands on their site but most of their products are also sold on Hello Indigo Halo and Indigo also add a little gift or note to cheer one up when you order from them, so I will revert to buying solely from Hello Indigo Halo. We also have a lovely crystal shop in Hout Bay. It still makes me feel a bit salty that they could not be bothered to communicate with me and manage my expectations or clarify.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and week ahead. We booked a curry roti takeaway after my afternoon is over, so I have a lazy and chilled day planned and if the weather clears again on Sunday I have some gardening to do.

Until next time, Kisses from the Kitten xoxoxox
