Thinning of the Veil

As a person who loves fancy dress, Halloween has always been my favourite holiday. It is only the last year or two that Norm and I have not had a party or at least attended one. As well as my love of dressing up, I am always conscious that this time of year the veil between the physical world and the spiritual world is very thin and it is easier for us to communicate with our ancestors and those on the other side.

I cannot remember whether I have told the stories of the many spirit interactions I have had, but one came to mind strongly this week. Many decades ago I had been to a psychic fair and I had a reading from a psychic who told me that we would move into a barn conversion, that I would be moving away from home and living on my own and that she could see a baby on the other side, that it was a girl and that she was ’with my gran’. I had miscarried a year before I fell pregnant with my son.

Norm and I were staying in a very old property, a barn conversion made into a lovely house. We did not view it before we took occupancy because we were desperate for a place and took it sight unseen. I did not think about the words from the psychic at first. I was aware of so many spirits while there. I usually see a dark shadow, darting away just on the periphery of my vision and this happened constantly in that house.

I wanted to know if the spirits were there for me, or whether they were related to the house. I was in the bathroom staring at myself in the mirror and I asked for the spirit to come through and communicate with me, to show me they were there. The lights in the bathroom instantly went off. I was startled. I went downstairs and asked Norm to come into the bathroom with me and I asked again for confirmation. The light again went off, not the lights for the whole house, just the ones in the bathroom. It freaked Norm out.

That night we were both dead asleep in the king sized bed. I heard a girls voice shouting loudly in my ear ‘MOM, MOM’ and when I woke I felt an arm and leg wrapped around me just like how my gran always slept with me. Because of my inability to keep still and not fidget my gran used to throw her arm and leg across me until I fell asleep.

I opened my eyes thinking it was Norm cuddling me, but he was all the way across the bed, sound asleep. It shocked me, but it did not scare me, in fact it gave me such comfort to know my ‘lost’ baby was not lost at all, she was safe with her great-grandmother.

This week I asked a friend and her daughter to come for coffee. The daughter (J) is studying to be an Animal Whisperer / Communicator and I had asked her to come and try to communicate with Finn to understand what is happening with his many health issues.

We sat outside and both dogs went to have cuddles from J. Finn is not often friendly with new people but he was enamored of J. After J had a bit of a connection with Finn she confirmed what I had felt, Finn is stressed and anxious. What J picked up that I did not pick up is that it is in relation to his role as a guard dog. That made so much sense to me as his symptoms seemed to become very severe when Norm had gone out of the country. Finn obviously takes his role as a guard dog very seriously and this pressure is too much for his sensitive soul.

We have many layers of security in our home. We have a wall, beams, security gates, slam locks and an alarm system. We have cameras. Our home is very secure. To me Finn is more of an early alarm system, I would never send him out to defend us if there were intruders. He is locked in the upstairs bedroom with us at night and that is as safe as we can be. J says she will connect with his energy later when she can do so and she will reassure Finny boy that he is a guard dog only to warn us of anyone on our property and to give the delivery men a scare.

Sometimes plans can flip on their heads organically. In my post last week I mentioned that I was going to lunch on Sunday but was staying in on Saturday. Instead, I ended up going out all day on Saturday and staying in on Sunday! The friend I was lunching with on Sunday was ill so we had to cancel.

I started my day on Saturday with my morning prayers on my hill as always.

Caitlin messaged to ask what we were doing and did I want to join her and Bree on a beach walk in the afternoon so I agreed to try and be home by 4pm. Then Norm and I headed out to Coricraft as I was keen on a daybed that was on special and I wanted to look at the fabrics in person and compare them to the fabric of the one we already ordered. We got a 40% discount by choosing a fabric that is being discontinued but that we feel will go with the sectional. This is a mock up of it.

On the way home we were hungry so we stopped at The Deli Social to have a bite to eat.

Norm ordered the croissant eggs benny. It looked delicious!

I ordered off of their Small Plates menu as I had fancied the prawn toast since a friend had posted a pic of it. It did not disappoint but I needed another small plate to fill me up.

Instead I had a wee lemon and passionfruit cake which I took home.

Soon after we arrived at home Caitlin and Bree came to collect me and we went to Hout Bay beach.

It is literally 5 minutes from our home and is surrounded by such lovely mountains.

We had a walk to the end of the beach and then we went for an Iced coffee at Dunes on the Beach. We then walked back to the other end of the beach to the car and Caitlin dropped me off at home and they went home for dinner.

So from a day of nothing we ended up running around all day but it was a lovely day in the end.

Norm cooked for us again this week. He cooked chicken sausage, mashed potatoes and steamed baby broccoli, it was delicious.

We also tried the new food truck, Render Smokehouse again. This time I ordered a pulled pork wrap as I was not happy with the excess of bread on their sandwich. Their portions are very generous and the food is excellent quality. I am glad we gave them another try. The onion rings are the star for me.

This week I sold our second couch on marketplace. On Wednesday the new owner collected it. I loved that couch so much. Lipstick red leather, art deco design. But the bounce was going & the leather was cracking. It was one of the first things we bought in the UK. We then brought it from England to South Africa with us. It has been in use for approximately 30 years.

Then yesterday the new sectional was delivered. It is a lovely mocha coloured chocolate leather, called Kalahari Camel but I have never seen a camel this colour. It is soft as velvet and massive! Excuse all of the piles of pillows and blankets which are all around the bar, we have to decide which of them we are keeping and which we are giving away.

The couch is so comfy and has so much room. It is also massive and we are lucky we have so much space!

Little Bree has taken her first steps this week. She was pushing her little cart around and she let go and walked a few steps without it. We had to drop off some suitcases of Caitlin’s as Norm cleared out our garage so we popped in for a few minutes to see if we could get a glimpse of Bree walking but she did one or two steps but that was it. She refused to cooperate. I hope she has the hang of it when we go to George next week so her and Amelia can play together better.

Little Amelia dressed up last night as a dragon. How adorable is she?? She had the tail and Lily made the wings and conceived the outfit. Lily is so creative.

Bree is going Trick or Treating on Sunday in their neighbourhood as Winnie the Pooh.

This week I binged Hunting Wives. Norm said it did not look like his kind of show (he is not usually a fan of most American series) so I watched it while Norman was busy with other things.

This show is basically just affairs, religion, guns, swingers, hypocrisy, misogyny and sex, mostly woman on woman sex. There is even a bit of pegging between the sheriff and his bisexual wife (played respectively by Branton Box and Jaime Ray Newman) just to spice things up to yet another level. It is based in Texas and on the book by the same name which was written by May Cobb and I was surprised to find that the married Ms May identifies as straight. All I can say is that she must have some spicy fantasies as there is a lot of naked naughty fondling between the two main characters played by actresses Brittany Snow & Malin Åkerman as well as by Malin and Jaime Ray. We saw a full frontal nude scene with Kyle, Mandy’s crackhead brother played brilliantly by Michael Aaron Milligan and co-starring his rather large appendage.

The twists and turns of the plot kept me interested and I laughed a lot (maybe not meant to be funny but I have a weird SOH) so I will give this series 4 Kitten Stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐It is not a 5 because of the annoying ending. I see that there is a Season 2 in the works which explains the horrific ending. Nothing like a cliff-hanger to wind you up!

Later today I am going to attend my women’s group but that is all we have on for the whole weekend. It has been such a chaotic week that I am actually happy to relax. I hope you all enjoy your weekend and week ahead.

Until next time, Kisses from the Kitten xoxoxoxox
