A three day weekend seems so long at the start but then it always goes so quickly. I did at least get all the juice out of it (whatever that means).
The weather was the kind that I love, cool and with a bit of a drizzle or mist in the air, alternating with pouring rain. I love nothing better than sitting outside undercover of my back patio listening to the rain.
On Sunday Tam and I were going to have coffee but decided to go out for brunch with our friend Lou instead. I was not involved in their convo as Tam gave me a lift. We arrived at Deli Delish and ordered a drink and waited. A few minutes in we get a message to say Lou is waiting for us at a different deli. Ironically the deli where Lou was is just near my house and we were down at the beach. Oops. Lou made her way to join us at Delish.
I ordered a Bree and bacon sandwich on ciabatta as I did not want anything complicated. I removed the top half of the bread but added a little bowl of fries / chips. It was tasty and just what I fancied.
We spent ages talking and catching up and then Tam dropped me off and came in for coffee. It was lovely and cool outside for a change.
Norm fancied Chinese for dinner and he went to Blue Lotus in Hout Bay. I ordered some salmon rolls, prawn rolls, prawn dim sum and vegetable noodles.
It was good, I think it was better than my usual sushi place but Blue Lotus put cream cheese in most of their sushi which is disgusting to me. It overpowers every other flavour and sushi has such delicate balances. So I can have it with something else like I did here but not as a main as these were the only 2 types of sushi I fancied.
Monday it was back to work and I had meetings and a lot of work to get through this week. I do feel like I am progressing and finding interesting information.
Blue is still in his cast, he had an x-ray on Monday and he is still not completely healed. He seems sad without Lola but maybe that is my imagination. He wants to be near us humans at all times.
There was a murder in my back garden this week. We woke to feathers everywhere and it seems that some bird friend died. It seems a bit eerie after the name of my last blog being ‘The Bird Mafia‘! Do you think they are sending me a message? Is this the bird equivalent of finding a horse head in your bed ala The Godfather? Did I not pay the protection money?

I mentioned before about how Poppy plays ball by dropping the ball down the steps in front of her? I caught it on video the other day as she was doing it in a repeated circle.
She has all of these weird obsessive behaviours. She loves water! She just goes around the same path in the garden over and over and over.
Vanessa came to give me a pedicure on Wednesday. I love having sparkling toes even if my heels often look like a billy goat.
Speaking of billy goats. I had an appointment to get threading and a facial on Saturday morning. As Lily had my car, Norm took me to drop me off at the salon. As no one was home, Poppy had to come with us. Norm had bought a wee pink harness and lead for her and she did very well with it, she was freaked out at first and just hurled herself on the ground but eventually she got the gist of it when she saw Finn walking calmly on his lead.
Norm came back to collect me, took me home to change and freshen up and then dropped me at Tam’s house as I had her birthday party to attend. Poppy is not great in the car and she barfed all over my brand new dress. I had nothing to catch said barf so it was just soaking into my dress when I arrived. She was squealing her head off about me leaving. It can be as stressful as having a baby sometimes.
It was quite hot in the sun but cool enough to sit outside in the shade and it was a lovely afternoon.
I have not been to a braai in years and we do not even have a bbq to cook in, so it is funny that I have had two in one weekend. Tam made some gorgeous salads and we brought meat and snacks. It was all perfectly cooked (YES I requested charred chicken).
Today Lily and I went to Caitlin and Wes’ to visit with them and Bree. Wes cooked some chicken sausages and beef on the braai and made a lovely green salad to go with it. He had brioche buns for the sausages and it was delicious.
I had a trial run getting Bree to sleep on my own. She was hilarious. Basically, you put her in the cot, put on her sound machine and sit quietly until she is asleep. Her part of the scenario is to thrash about like a kitten on a hot plate, do the inchworm up the mattress and bash her head on the headboard, pop her dummy in and out of her mouth, sing and coo and smile, leopard crawl across to the cot toy, squeeze the bee and laugh deliriously, and then 30 minutes in, turn on her side and pass out.
It is lovely to see the girls and their daughters together. The babies react to each other now and Amelia can say ‘Bree’ very sweetly.
I am babysitting next weekend while Caitlin and Wes attend a wedding in Paarl, about an hour’s drive away in the winelands. I am on duty all day, a night nurse comes at 6pm to relieve me and they will be home later that evening. They have a driver so no worries about driving late at night or drinking. I am so happy that they are getting out and doing things together, that is an important aspect of parenthood, giving your spouse time and attention.
Caitlin is now back at work so Lily will not see her again unless she helps me sit with Bree, we may do a half day with her and with Norm each as we have both Amelia and Poppy to look after.
A friend posted this and it hit me that this is how I feel about my home and garden! This is how I see life, in a series of little vignettes. The microscopic view I discussed last week. I love beauty and want to see something pleasing to the eye everywhere but I want the entire scene to be pretty as well.

Maybe I agree with it other than my grocery lists, I did spend a ton of cash on groceries this week and I will be cooking for us. Next week is the race which blocks off our road when it is on. I literally just realised I may not be able to get out of my road to go baby sit Bree next weekend!!
I am a day late posting because I was so busy yesterday and then passed out about 9pm from exhaustion and overstimulation. Now I feel overstimulated again. I think I will go sit outside in the cold air and watch the lights go out. The best thing to calm me.
I hope you all have a great week ahead. Until next time, Kisses from the Kitten xoxoxox
