Let It Burn

We have a family ‘joke’ that every time Norm travels out of the country there is some drama or catastrophe. There were a few dramas this week which would normally be dealt with by Norm, but with him not here I had to be both Lisa and Norm!

I mentioned in a previous post about a cat peeing in the shower and we thought it was Blue because that seems like a boy thing to do and boy cats often have bladder issues due to their small urethras. It turns out that poor Blue had the indignity of getting treated, but it was actually Lola. When I was going to bed on Monday Lola came into the shower, squatted in front of me and just peed out a lake of blood. The next day I was supposed to go to Caitlin to help with Bree, but instead I was waiting to see a vet with a meowing Lola in a cat carrier at 8:30. I never go to the vet, that is usually one of Norm’s areas of responsibility.

That morning I did my prayers on the hill as usual. When I got to the Centre I asked for prayers for Lola, my daughters, my granddaughters, my mother and then I got this sudden message that it is bigger than me and my family, I need to pray for all womankind. The election was the following day so I said out loud ‘please let Kamala win, please let women’s rights win, please let humanity win’ and the wind picked up and blew so hard it almost knocked me off of my little hill. I just laughed at the sudden feeling of reassurance that all would be well, but it was either a misinterpretation or a warning, because it was certainly not reassurance as the cretin won.

It is incomprehensible to me that so many people are part of his cult. That americans (sic deserved) would prefer to be led by a convicted criminal and a rapist than by a well educated woman, especially a woman of colour.

The core of trump’s base is white, uneducated men, but unbelievably many women voted for him, despite him removing their rights to their own bodily autonomy and his promises to ultimately remove their rights to even vote. I would have hoped that they voted under duress, but unfortunately many white women voted for him of their own accord.

The fact that they would trade their daughters’ and granddaughters’ rights due to their deliberate ignorance is so sad.

They believe the right wing news they absorb. They blame the democrats on ‘the economy’. The USA is having an amazing economy, but the trump supporters do not understand the difference between ‘economy’ and the cost of living.

The entire world is suffering from an increase in cost of living, groceries, petrol; in fact most things are more expensive. How the MAGAs think that Trump is going to magically drop the cost of items when in fact the tariffs he is going to implement will ultimately be paid by the people. Various economists have warned of a potential recession under trump (but none of his supporters will read anything, they just watch Faux News).

The United States is the world’s largest economy by nominal GDP; it is also the second largest by purchasing power parity (PPP), only second to China. It has the world’s sixth highest per capita GDP (nominal) and the eighth highest per capita GDP (PPP) as of 2024.

“There is widespread confidence that if any of Trump’s aggressive economic policies were to impose heavy costs, particularly on investors or big business, he would reverse them.

This sense of confidence, however, is rooted in a failure to understand the true danger of Trump’s current economic plans. No U.S. president has ever abandoned his repeatedly proclaimed economic priorities on day one of his administration. Trump and his running mate, JD Vance, have proposed a set of radical, large-scale interventions into the American economy, including tariffs on all imports, at ten to 15 times the level of those Trump imposed in his first term, which were primarily levied on only Chinese goods; the deportation or internment of somewhere between one million and eight million immigrants, including some who are currently in the United States legally; and a power grab that would involve using executive authority to sequester funds appropriated by Congress and to interfere in the Federal Reserve’s independence in setting interest rates. These are an order of magnitude worse than what he pursued in his first term.

According to Trump, deporting huge numbers of undocumented workers; imposing high tariffs on most, if not all, foreign goods; and increasing presidential discretion over fiscal and monetary policy will bring prosperity to American workers. In fact, every one of these measures will do the opposite. By restricting the supply of resources that U.S. businesses, workers, and households value and use, they will reduce the productive capacity of the U.S. economy.

They will also make doing business more expensive and uncertain. Forced to self-insure against insecure access to supplies and markets, many businesses would operate at a smaller scale. And the U.S. commercial sector may separate its sales and production for the rest of the world from that for the North American market. This would reduce the return on private investment in the U.S. economy and lower real income growth for everyone.”

For me it is not that the voters desire cheap items, it is that they reduced the rights of women over their own bodies to that of less than a cadaver.

They voted that women and girls who are impregnated from a rape may now have to carry that child to term. That girls who are impregnated from incest may have to carry that child to term. Forced to give birth to your brother is the christian way apparently. The hypocrisy sickens me.

Women are just vessels for use or service or to destroy if the mood should strike a CIS man.

There is now merchandise saying ‘Your body, my choice’. WTF???

This concept is horrific for women and girls, transgender people, or other minorities affected by the eejit’s policies and there are people celebrating?

I have decided he who shall not be mentioned will not occupy my mind as he did the last term he served. It made me ill. There is nothing I can do to change the election results, the people have chosen their bed and they must lie in it. Well, unless they get deported or put into prison as an ‘enemy within’. They do not realise it will be them eventually, everyone makes it onto at least one of his targeted lists at some point.

So I shall let it go. I may still erupt in fury if my friends are affected, but I will strive for peace within.

Now….Back to my own day to day life. The vet kept Lola all day and I picked her up at 5:30pm. They had tried to get a scan with a full bladder but I think the wee was just going straight out of her every few minutes bless her little heart so it took a while to conduct it. There were no stones but she had a little polyp or mass in her bladder.

Mr Vet was showing me the x-rays and he started to say something and I said ‘I am a radiographer’ and he looked surprised and said ‘oh where do you work?’ and I said ‘not now, now I am a data architect’ and he looked at me like I had two heads. I am used to that.

On Wednesday I was back spending all day with Caitlin and Bree and then Lily arrived at the airport that evening. I went to collect her since Norman was away. She could not use an uber with the baby with her. I hate driving, especially on a motorway, and especially during rush hour. I am terrible with directions and went around the airport terminal a few times before I found parkade 1. But I did it and I found the departure area and a seat to wait as I was very early. Lily drove us home. It was so lovely to see them both.

Lily went to spend the day with Caitlin and Bree on Thursday and it was all go at the house. I was back at work, remotely. The mobile groomer came for Finn. Norm also flew home from Bahrain that morning. All this while managing work and meetings.

Lily also spent the afternoon with Caitlin and Bree on Friday. It was lovely to get to spend time with Amelia around. She is a proper little toddler now and can amuse herself for ages with her imaginary games. Lily set up the little stove and utensils for her to play kitchen at the back of the house where it is cool.

We also spent ages trying to repair the little horse that we had bought for our granddaughters and then subsequently discovered one of the wheels is broken. Millie can push it but not ride it.

The local hardware store was no help as the bolt was not a standard size. Millie had a nap and then forgot about it when she got up thank goodness. Norm has done some sort of rig and we will see if it lasts.

Amelia and I watched a few videos of nursery rhymes and danced and sang to them all (well, we danced and I sang). We fed the birds, we had snacks, we had cuddles, we read books, we played with the animals, both of who adore her.

It was so special having this time with both of my granddaughters.

With that in mind, I am counting the things I am grateful for to keep me positive. I am grateful for my grandchildren, my children, my husband, my mother, my friends, my uncles, my cousins, my home, my job, my car, but most importantly, I am grateful that I do not live in America, nor will I ever. For my friends who did not vote red but will be tainted with the blood that will spill over this election, I will keep you all in my prayers to my Creator. I hope you will stay safe. Please know I am always an ally.

For those who voted for this nightmare that is about to hit pretty much every family in the states? I will stand by and watch it all burn to the ground.

Once it all burns to the ground, hopefully a light will be left in the embers.

Until next time, Kisses from the Kitten xoxoxox
