Gifts from our Ancestors

This week I was sitting outside on my back patio and my eye caught movement above me and when I looked up I saw this tiny black feather slowly drift down and land on my knee. The patio is under a roof so I do not know how it dropped down from above me. I took it as a wee sign of comfort and love from my ancestors.

Last Sunday I pottered about in the garden moving things and replanting. The plant in this pot died so I planted some other clippings and will see what takes. Sometimes they all grow, sometimes one of them goes ballistic and pushes the others out of the way.

I tidied my Peace Garden and fed the birds.

This week I had a delivery of some garden bits and pieces I ordered. Norm commented on my buying habits and I quipped back, be glad your wife only covets garden items and not other men! I do not think he felt relieved. There is no pleasing some people!

Norm has been doing some clearing out of cupboards and he found some old photos of me and my children I would love to share with you all.

The first pic is me holding a newly born Caitlin with Trevor in his onsie PJs sitting on the bed with us. It is in the hospital in Los Angeles in 1988. The second pic was Caitlin and I in Cape Town in 2008ish. I think you really see how much Caitlin looks like me in the 2008 pic.

The next is Caitlin when she was about 18 months old in 1990. We were in Johannesburg I think or we may have been on safari.

The last two photos are with me and Lily in 1991 in George, South Africa. The 1st was taken at about 3months old and the second one when she was about 7months old I think?

I thought this week about how our perspective on so many things can change as we age. I used to be able to do a million events and activities in a single day. Now I seldom leave my house or see anyone other than a few friends, family and delivery men and that is perfectly fine with me. I have women friends that meet up once a month and various events I do attend, but I do not need to attend things every week. I used to have such FOMO! Now I know that what is meant for me will come to me.

Based on that standard, I had a very busy week of human interaction this week! It has not helped with life that loadshedding kicked back in and the electricity was off so much that my laptop battery was struggling to last and everything in the freezer started to melt.

On Monday Poppy went in to the vet for surgery to get her pins removed from her leg. I also had my cleaner Chichi in to work that day which creates it’s own chaos. Chichi loves to talk but I am trying to work. She makes me laugh a lot. She is fabulous so I try to engage while also concentrating.

We also had the Mobile Dog Groomer here to groom Finn on Monday. He smells much better and looks very fetching in his new scarf. He gets a new brightly coloured neck scarf each time he is groomed.

Poppy came home from the vet wide awake and acting like she had been out for brunch rather than surgery. They left one pin in which was difficult to remove. He said it may work itself out and we can just take pliers and remove it if we see it poking out. Errrr hell to the no we shall not. We will bring her in and let them do it in the office!

We are supposed to keep her settled and quiet but that is impossible with a puppy full of the joys of life.

She got knocked by Norm and stomped by Finn because she just appears like a wraith under your feet. She moves with no sound like Cousin It. It is quite eerie looking down and there are those 2 little eyes staring at you when she was across the room before you turned your head 1 second ago.

After she again had an episode where she cried for ages, Norm took her down on Friday to let the vet check her out. He was able to touch and manipulate her entire leg other than the area where the pin is still in. He thinks her injuries are from knocking the pin, so he is taking the last pin out on Monday.

On Tuesday we had our gardener here all day and on Wednesday I had my manicurist here for an appointment.

My friend T came for coffee on Thursday. We are both sound sensitive and one thing I noticed, if there were dogs barking she was distracted, however I do not even hear them any longer. However if birds were making noises, I was distracted and that did not seem to creep into her attention. As usual we talked about a million things, it was lovely to catch up.

On Thursday evening my son Trevor arrived. He is here for a week so that he can spend time with his sister and his niece. He and Caitlin have always been very close so he came down to spend her last week of maternity leave with her. On Friday morning Trevor was up early to collect his dad and go to Caitlin’s. His Dad flew down with him and flies home on Tuesday but Trev stays on a few more days. Trevor arrived here just as our dinner was being delivered.

We have a few hours in the evening together to just hang and that is so lovely. We all get woken at dawn by Blue meowing the house down for his breakfast.

Today Trevor and his dad are with Caitlin and Bree again. Norm and I are just having a quiet day.

Work is so mentally intensive at the moment that I need a lot of down time, but I am making good progress on what I am tasked with achieving. I had a meeting with my manager and at the end of it I shouted ‘JAZZ HANDS’ and waved my hands back and forth in a jazz like manner. I have no idea why. He just laughed. I think he understands me.

I hope you all have had a lovely week and that next week treats you kindly.

Until next time, Kisses from the Kitten xoxoxoxox
